The pain in my shoulder got bad enough that I made an appointment with my doctor. I have phlebitis, an inflamed vein.
Diagnosis – Phlebitis
Yesterday my doctor told me that the pain and lump in my shoulder was inflammation of a vein (phlebitis). Phlebitis usually occurs in the legs as a result of an injury.
Treatment – Meloxicam
Meloxicam – 15 mg with food (lunch) once per day. I took one yesterday at lunch…so far no ‘magic bullet’ result. The pharmacist said I shouldn’t take meloxicam with ibuprofen or Aleve, because they’re so similar.
Prognosis – Placebo?
My shoulder still hurts. My doctor gave me a prescription for two weeks and made a follow-up appointment. I’m wondering what I can do in the next few days to reduce the discomfort. Ice my shoulder? Eat quinoa?
I won’t ride my bicycle until this goes away. I suspect cycling to work last Friday triggered the “injury” somehow.
